We started out with a custom silk screening venture called “Mean Green”, with the intent of eventually starting a clothing company. “Mean Green” was a true trial-and-error experience: in 2007, we made enough revenue to purchase our own equipment. This led us to work with many UCSD student organizations, from sororities and fraternities to the Dance Team and Women’s Rugby.

Communicating with clients, designing, and screening shirts gave us the full grasp of the production business. Our silk screening venture and sleepless nights making countless shirts taught us more than just the craft; it taught us how to successfully run a business. Finally, we were ready for our initial plan: a clothing company. The four of us – all full-time students with part-time jobs – had endless discussions about “what’s going to happen next.” This led to our developing MAITRI Clothing.

MAITRI is more than a brand or tshirt. MAITRI is a state of mind that requires action. Action to get up, to get involved, to make a difference. This is the optimist's movement. Inspiration to get outside and do something productive. This is not a passive lifestyle. This is an opportunity to ignite your passion in what makes you happy. It is that idea of happiness that keeps us doing what we do.

The desire to share the joy of doing what makes you stand for something; to be who you are, to do the things you love. To help others achieve that happiness and encourage them to participate in the things that move them. To promote the mentality of giving back. To walk tall and feel good about what you do and who you are.

We see MAITRI Clothing growing at an international scale, promoting happiness, love and kindness through action sports and the like. MAITRI is a lifestyle that encourages action, and progressively aids individuals to continuously do the things they love to do. MAITRI is an opportunity to unite youth, adolescences, and adults the same in something more than products.

We offer opportunity to those who strive to succeed through promoting and volunteering our efforts in Non-Profit Organizations that cultivate education, art, music, and well-being. Giving back to those who seek guidance in finding their own niche in the world and operate with the soul purpose of mental fulfillment is what we are about.
